CMDT PRACTICUM LEVELS

CDT Practicum Level 1 - Certified Dog Trainer (Service or Working Dogs)
  • Time Frame 3 - 5 years
  • Each practicum is completed when 1 type of service / working dog from each group is trained to certification.
  • At this stage the person must decide if they want to work with service dogs or working dogs
CMDT Practicum Level 2 - Certified Master Dog Trainer (Service and Working Dogs)
  • Time Frame 5 - 8 years
  • Each practicum is completed when 1 type of service and working dog from each group is trained to certification.
  • At this stage the person has decided to work with both Working and Service dogs

PRACTICUM DESCRIPTIVE

Service Dogs

Practicum 1. (3-4 Weeks).

1 Week - Organizational - kennel operations, introduction to MSAR Manual, Tests, Standards and Supports 2-3 Weeks - Psychiatric Service Dogs background and types, training methods, timelines, breed selection and training procedures and equipment.

Practicum 2. (2-3 Weeks)

Mobility Service Dogs background and types, training methods, timelines, breed selection and training procedures.

Practicum 3. (2-3 Weeks)

Autism Service Dogs background and types, training methods, timelines, breed selection and training procedures.

Practicum 4. (2-3 Weeks)

Specialty Service Dogs (Detection, Bi-Polar and one of a kind service dogs) background and types, training methods, timelines, breed selection and training procedures.

Working Dogs

Practicum 1. (4-5 Weeks).

1 Week - Organizational - kennel operations, introduction to MSAR Manual, Tests, Standards and Supports 3-4 weeks - Police Working K9, breed selection, fields of operation, equipment.

Practicum 2. (3-4 Weeks)

Military / Contract K9 breed selection, fields of operation, equipment.

Practicum 3. (3-4 weeks)

Search and Rescue K9, breed selection, fields of operation, equipment.

Practicum 4. (3-4 Weeks)

Specialty Working Dogs (Intel Detection, Drone Detection, Close Protection, Cadaver) breed selection, fields of operation, equipment.
